Tournaments

We organise an annual Grand Prix series of six mini tournaments aimed at children under fourteen years of age. Details of the 2008 series are awaiting confirmation. The 2006 and 2007 series both completed successfully, taking place at various different school venues in the Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire area.:

Sections

There will be four sections:

• Parents,
• Advanced,
• Intermediate and
• Beginner

Entry Fee

The normal entry fee is £8 but for Parent and Siblings it is £5. Methods of payment are explained when you choose to register on-line : the current on-line fee is €12 which (usually, depending on the £ / € exchange rate) provides a small discount.

Prizes

• The winner and runner-up of each junior section will receive a Trophy.
• Players scoring 3 points or more (50% or better) will win a Medal.
• All other players will receive a chess magazine.
• Parents will win cash prizes depending on entries received.

Round Times*

1. 2.00 - 2.30 p.m.
2. 2.45 - 3.15 p.m.
3. 3.30 - 4.00 p.m.
4. 4.15 - 4.45 p.m.
5. 5.00 - 5.30 p.m
6. Prize Giving at 5.45 p.m.

Guidelines

• Beginner: A player who is just starting out in chess.
• Intermediate: A player with a good working knowledge of the rules and who plays regularly at school or at home
• Advanced: A player who typically plays for their school team and / or regularly in Junior tournaments

Grand Prix

All results count towards the Grand Prix with cash prizes for the winners. Prizes will be as follows:

• 1^st: £100
• 2^nd : £75
• 3^rd: £25
• 4^th - 20^th : book prizes

Refreshments

Refreshments will be on sale all afternoon.

Supervision

Supervision between rounds is the responsibility of the parents.
